New York sports betting: Deadline passes with no new law,

Syracuse, N.Y. -- New York lawmakers failed to pass a new sports betting bill by Wednesday's deadline, leaving state gaming officials with an outdated law to set regulations on how bettors can wager on sports this year. It counts as a missed opportunity that leaves New York in a vulnerable position with neighbor New Jersey up and running and soon offering online wagering. Barring a special session, New York lawmakers can revisit the sports betting bill when they reconvene in January 2019. Will Seneca Nation Casinos Take Sports Bets Soon?

Will Seneca Nation Casinos Take Sports Bets Soon? When it comes to potential sports gambling operations in its three Western New York casinos, the Seneca Nation of Indians is playing its cards close to the vest. Monday’s Supreme Court ruling effectively legalized sportsbooks at a federal level, leaving the regulation up to states. The Nation, however, is sovereign and like most gaming issues in New York State, there appears to be some disagreement about what it is allowed to do in its casinos. The Senecas have not said they are moving forward with a sportsbook, but in a short statement said they will take a close look at the ruling and the possibility of creating another amenity for...

NY Sports Betting 2018, Legal Sports Betting in New York

On May 14, the U.S. Supreme court struck down the key language in the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) which barred state-authorized sports betting. This decision allowed New York and every other state to move forward with their own sports betting regulations. New York State has long been “behind the curve” in gambling developments, according to NY Sen. John Bonacic. Bonacic and other lawmakers were eager to legalize and regulate a New York sports betting industry before the legislative session ended in June. But that didn’t happen, and bettors in the state will likely be forced to wait at least another year. NY sports betting status Now that states...

New York's new casinos produce weaker-than-projected revenues SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (Reuters) - New York State's three new commercial casinos are turning out much weaker gambling revenues than projected, with gross receipts at one gaming hall off about 40 percent. So far New York has received $50.2 million from the three casinos, said gambling industry officials on Wednesday at an annual meeting near the famed Saratoga thoroughbred track. They did not specify how much tax revenue, which goes to education and property tax relief, the state had expected to get from the three casinos this year. State officials expressed patience with the shortfall while highlighting that job creation and...

What s next for sports gambling push in New York uncertain The Buffalo News

How sports gambling would be handled at OTBs and other facilities was one debate that wasn’t settled before the end of the state Legislative session. (News file photo) ALBANY – An effort to legalize sports gambling in New York died of multiple causes at the Capitol last week. It was halted, in part, by opponents concerned about a dramatic new spread of wagering opportunities – but also because of battles among the biggest gambling interests in the state and nation. And there were other factors. A malaise by officials over the issue, notably by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo; a remarkably unproductive end of the state legislative session; and little citizen engagement all contributed to stopping...
