Phil Ramos still sees her smiling face, forever frozen in a photograph. Her name is Sherrice Iverson, and she was 7 when she was lured from an arcade into a Primm casino restroom 20 years ago, forced into the largest stall, sexually assaulted and slowly strangled before her killer snapped her neck. A copy of that portrait — her smile wide and earnest — now sits in a cardboard box marked as “evidence” at the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas. The man convicted of her murder, Jeremy Strohmeyer, sits at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs. The shocking case started a national conversation on casino security and whether gaming properties should be required to provide child...

Abstract Objectives. I assessed air pollution, ventilation, and nonsmokers' risk from secondhand smoke (SHS) in Pennsylvania casinos exempted from a statewide smoke-free workplace law. Methods. I measured respirable suspended particles (RSPs), particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PPAHs), and carbon dioxide inside and outside casinos; measured changes in patrons' urine cotinine after casino visits; and assessed SHS impact on workers and patrons, using exposure–response models, air quality standards, and odor and irritation thresholds. Results. PPAH and RSP concentrations in casinos were, on average, 4 and 6 times, respectively, that of outdoor levels despite generous...

Las Vegas Gun Carry Laws in a Casino Casinos are in business to please and entertain guests, but this doesn’t mean guests have free rein to do as they wish. While Las Vegas patrons are free to carry concealed or open-carry weapons while walking down the Strip, they have to be more careful when it comes to entering casinos because of the Las Vegas gun casino rules. Gun Carry Laws in Nevada Nevada is relatively lax when it comes to gun laws. When looking at earnings from gaming companies, trying to figure out what all of the numbers mean can be confusing. Revenue and net income are easy enough, but luck plays a role and companies throw out terms like "rolling chips" and "drop" like they're everyday terms. So, let's take a look at what those numbers mean and how they impact earnings reports. There are generally three categories in any earnings reports: mass market play, VIP play, and slots. Mass market is simple enough: It's the average person who walks into a casino and puts money down at a table or into a slot machine. VIP players play on credit and use what are called rolling chips. Slots are just that -- slot machines. Here'...

Secondhand smoke (SHS) is an occupational hazard for many casino workers- from dealers to security. Job-related exposure to SHS is a significant, but entirely preventable, cause of premature death among U.S. workers. While 24 states have 100 percent smoke-free laws covering all workplaces, restaurants, and bars, only 20 states require state-regulated gaming facilities to be 100 percent smoke-free. ACS CAN urges policymakers and community leaders to pass laws and policies that make all gaming facilities 100 percent smoke-free. Secondhand Smoke: Risking Workers’ Health Casino workers are at higher risk for SHS-related illness than other workers: The National Institute of Occupational Health...

People identifying their occupations as "student" or "housewife" make up an unusually large share of B.C.'s high-rolling gamblers, prompting B.C.'s Attorney-General to question the source of millions of dollars flowing through the province's casinos. Gaming officials audited a year's worth of transactions at a single casino – Richmond's River Rock Casino – looking for patterns that could shed light on money laundering by organized crime. Among the report's findings were housewives whose bets were flagged as unusual because of the amount of cash they were bringing in, sometimes with stacks of bills in small denominations. One student alone bet $819,000 over the course of the year. "The...
