Table Games - Dice

Dice is an exciting, fast-action game that often creates bursts of cheers throughout the casino. Although the game may look difficult, this page will help any player understand the different bets that can be made on the dice table.

One player, the "shooter," throws the dice. All wagers must be placed before the shooter throws the dice. You don't have to roll the dice to win at this game. The dice are passed around the table and you may continue to bet while the other players roll. The types of wagers that can be made are:

An even money bet. Bet $5, win $5. You win if the first roll (the come out roll) is either a 7 or 11 (a "natural”), and lose if the first roll is a 2, 3 or 12 ("craps"). Any other number rolled is called the "point." A puck is placed on the point number and that point must be thrown again to win. After the point has been established, 7 is a losing roll.

The opposite of the pass line. If the first roll is a natural, you lose. If it comes up craps, you win (except for a 12). After the point is established, the dice must roll 7 before the rolling the point for you to win.

Once a point is established, you may make an additional bet on the odds that the point will be rolled before a 7. The payoffs on "odds" bets are different for each point: odds on 4 and 10 pay 2-to-1, odds on 5 and 9 pay 3-to-2, and odds on 6 and 8 pay 6-to-5. "Don't pass" or "don't come" odds are the opposite. You must lay the odds in order to win.

An even money bet with the same rules as the pass line. Come bets can be made any time after the point has been established. 7 and 11 wins, 2, 3 and 12 lose. Any number that comes up before the point must be rolled again for the come bet to win.

The opposite of come bets. 2 and 3 win (12 is a push), 7 or 11 lose. When any other number is thrown, the dice must roll a 7 before rolling that number for you to win.

After the point has been established, you can then make a place bet one any number. When you do this, you're betting that number will be rolled before a 7 is rolled. Place bets pay different odds depending on the number: 4 and 10 pay 9-to-5, 5 and 9 pay 7-to-5, and 6 and 8 pay 7-to-6.

A field bet is a one-roll wager. A 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11 wins even money. A 2 wins 2-to-1. A 12 wins 3-to-1.

Proposition bets can be made on any one roll of the dice. You make this bet by throwing your bet to the stickperson (the dealer controlling the dice) in the center of the table.

Any Ace-deuce (3) - pays 15-to-1

Hard way wagers bet that a given pair will be rolled before a 7 or a "soft" version of that pair's total. (Ex. 2 and 2 = a hard 4, whereas 3 and 1 = a soft 4). Hard 4 and 10 pay 7-to-1, hard 6 and 8 pay 9-to-1.

Table Games - Blackjack

Blackjack is a one-on-one game between the player and the dealer. The dealer distributes two cards to each player and two cards to himself, one face up. The object of the game is to draw cards that total 21 or as near to that as possible without going over (which is called a "bust"). Cards totaling more than 21 constitute an automatic losing hand.

Face cards count as 10. Aces can count as either 1 or 11. All other cards count as their face value. If you are dealt an ace and a ten-count card as your original hand, you have blackjack and will be paid at the rate of one-and-a-half to one. If the dealer also has blackjack, it's a standoff (or "push") and nobody wins or loses.

Two types of blackjack are available at Pearl River Resort:

After the first two cards are dealt, each player can draw additional cards to increase their total. To indicate that you want to draw another card (a "hit"), lightly tap your finger on the felt behind your cards and the dealer will give you another card.

When you wish to stop drawing cards, or "stand," slide your cards under your bet money and the dealer will move on to the next player.

To indicate you wish to draw, lightly tap your finger on the felt behind your cards, and the dealer will give you another card. When you wish to stand, wave your hand over your cards and the dealer will move on to the next player.

The dealer has no choice in how his hand is played. Once every player at the table is satisfied with the number of cards they have drawn, the dealer will turn up his "hole" card (the one that is face down), and reveal his hand to the table. If his card total less than 17, he must draw until his hand totals 17 or more, or until he busts.

Once than has been done, the hand is complete. If your cards total closer to 21 than those of the dealer, or if the dealer busts, you will be paid even money. Should your total be the same as the dealer's, it's a push and nobody wins or loses that hand.

Should your original two cards be a pair, such as two eights (or a 10 and a face card), you have the option to "split" the cards, doubling your bet and continuing the game with two hands. Of course, if you choose not to split, you may just play the cards as a normal hand.

Should you be dealt a pair of aces, you have the option of splitting them and doubling your bet. But you are only allowed one more card for each ace. If you receive a 10 or face card on either ace, you win even money on that hand. (Blackjack, which pays one-and-a-half to one, can only be made using the first two cards dealt.)

You always have the option to double your bet after your first two cards if you feel you need only one more "hit" to complete your hand. Expose your hand and match your bet, and the dealer will know to deal you one more card, then your hand will stand, no matter what the total.

If the dealer's exposed card is an ace, he will offer "insurance" to all the players at the table. You may wager one-half your original bet as insurance. This means that if the dealer actually has blackjack, you win 2-to-1 on your insurance wager.

Remember that the rules for playing blackjack are always set for the dealer. The point total you hold or the size of your bet has absolutely no bearing on the dealer's play. He is required to play his hand according to the rules and procedures of Pearl River Resort.

If you have any questions about Blackjack, feel free to ask your dealer or a floor supervisor for assistance.

Table Games - Mini-Baccarat

There are two ways to bet on Mini-Baccarat, the Player's Hands, or the Banker's Hand. Each hand is dealt two cards, the player's hand first, then the banker's. The highest hand in Mini-Baccarat is 9. In terms of determining the score, tens and face cards are worth zero, aces are worth one, and all other cards are worth their face value. The rules for additional cards to each hand after the initial two are as follows:

Having Means that:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 The player draws a card

6 or 7 The player must stand

8 or 9 (a "natural") The player stands and the banker may not draw

Having Draws when player Does not draw when

5 4-7 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10

6 6-7 1-10

8-9 Natural (Player may not draw)

Face cards and 10s do not count. If player takes no card, banker must draw 0-5, stands on 6-9. If banker's hand shows 0-2, banker must draw.

Responsible Gaming

A roll of the dice. A pull of the handle. The flip of a card. The bounce of a ball. In the exciting and fast-paced world of gaming, these simple acts can mean the difference between winning and losing. But when your bank account, your mortgage or your life rides on the outcome, your gambling has gotten out of hand.

Do you have a problem with gambling? Look at the following list. If you, or someone you know, meet at least five of these ten criteria established by the American Psychiatric Association then a gambling addiction may be indicated.

Building a tolerance for gambling

Increasing preoccupation with gambling

Gambling to escape problems

Chasing one's losses in an effort to get even

Lying about one's gambling

Jeopardizing family, education, job or career

Incurring serious financial difficulties that require a bailout

Performing illegal activities to finance gambling or pay gambling debts

Get the help you need now! If at least five of these characteristics fit you or someone you care about, we urge you to call this toll-free number: 1-800-522-4700.

You'll be referred to someone in your area that can provide help for problem gambling.

All inquiries will be handled with compassion and confidentiality.

At Pearl River Resort, we care about you. We hope your experience with us is an entertaining one. But, if the game begins to get out of hand, we want you to know that help is available.
