Sunset station hotel casino. Station Casinos files permit for casino project in south Reno

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - While not certain a casino will be built, Station Casinos has filed a permit to build a gaming property near the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Station casino.

KOLO 8 is looking into this, but Stations has offered this statement:

Station Casinos LLC (the “Company”), with a 40-year history in the Nevada gaming industry, has been interested in the Reno area for many years. Over a decade ago, the Company made significant land purchases in the south Truckee Meadows and near the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, with the intent of entering the Reno gaming market. Like many Nevada businesses, however, the economic downturn required the Company to alter and delay its plans. The recent expansion and diversification of Northern Nevada’s economy has renewed the Company’s interest in developing a gaming property in the Reno-Sparks market.

Although the Company has not yet determined when it will develop a new gaming facility, on July 11, 2016, the Company filed an application for a special use permit to build a casino and entertainment facility on the approximately 8-acre parcel it owns on South Virginia Street across from the Convention Center. The Company will also file an application with the Nevada Gaming Control Board to relocate the grandfathered non-restricted Reno Turf Club gaming license to that location. The relocation of the license is allowed by NRS 463.302, the Reno Municipal Code and agreements with the City of Reno. The Reno Turf Club license was taken by the City of Reno in 2004 through a condemnation action to facilitate the construction of the ReTRAC project.

“We are extremely excited about the Reno market and look forward to working with the City and State to secure the approvals necessary to build a high-quality gaming facility,” said Lori Nelson, spokesperson for Station Casinos.
