CINCINNATI, OH. (WKRC) – An annual charity boxing event between police officers and firefighters has lost its host venue. Station casino.
The news comes just two weeks from the scheduled fights on October 8th.
One of the Guns N’ Hoses organizers, Jim Knapp, says JACK Cincinnati Casino informed him late this week that due to legal and insurance reasons the casino could not host the event which includes 22 amateur boxing matches.
“A lot of it had to with the change of ownership and the timing with the ownership change,” said Knapp.
Back in June, the casino changed ownership and branding from Horseshoe Cincinnati Casino to its current name JACK Cincinnati Casino.

For the first two years, the event used the casino. While there are other venues being looked at none have the same feel as the casino.
"What we like about the atmosphere was the fact that people were able to move around, get up close to the ring if they wanted to,” said Knapp. “It was a time when police and fire were able to mingle together and not they didn't have to stay in a seat."
While organizers scramble to find a new home, the biggest blow is felt by the fighters who’ve spent months training for a fight on October 8th.
"They got themselves to a level where they were ready to go on October the 8th and to push it back even further and cancel it wouldn't be fair to them, it would be tough on them,” said Knapp.
Knapp added that he is having frequent conversations with the casino’s general manager and that the casino is walking away completely.
"The general manager of JACK Cincinnati Casino has offered to help me in any way he can to get another venue and a date that will still work with what we've done and with what the boxers have done," said Knapp.
The past two years the event has about $130,000 for families of those killed in the line of duty.
JACK Casino responded with a statement Sunday:

JACK Cincinnati Casino had no choice but to decline hosting the October 8 Guns N Hoses event. While we believe strongly in the cause of supporting the families of fallen fire fighters and police officers, through the process of booking the event we discovered that the promoter did not have adequate insurance. We tried to help the promoter secure supplemental insurance coverage to protect the event participants, but despite a national search we were unable to find a suitable policy. Because we believe strongly in the mission of Guns N Hoses but are not able to host the event, JACK Cincinnati Casino will instead be donating $25,000 to The Shield Ohio and $25,000 to the Cincinnati Fire Foundation. This is consistent with our support of many other worthy causes in our community.
